Can cavities heal on their own?

Short Answer: Once a cavity forms, it cannot heal on its own and must be treated by a dentist.

You can stop early enamel weakening with fluoride, but once decay penetrates the surface, it spreads. Fillings prevent further damage and restore strength.

If you feel a twinge or spot a dark spot, don’t wait — it’s easier to fix early.
